The University of California, Santa Cruz Graduate Research Symposium offers graduate students from every division the opportunity to present their research or other graduate work to the public. For the in-person live event in past years at McHenry Library, graduate students have presented their work in short talks (5 minutes) with or without slides or other visual accompaniments, large research posters, or alternative media such as video clips or software game snippets. Due to the pandemic, graduate student presenters recorded their presentations this year and they are currently available for public viewing on the Division of Graduate Studies YouTube channel. Last summer, The Humanities Institute awarded Thaïs Miller a Graduate Summer Research Fellowship to study Yiddish through the Uriel Weinreich Summer Program in Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture at YIVO. In this short video, Thaïs presents on her research through YIVO’s program and reads an excerpt from her new novel, California Kvetchin’.
